some really old rant I wrote for school...still a decent read though
---------------------------------------------
masturbating the status quo
Anyone ever notice how you're not important, not even valid, unless someone hears you? And more imperatively, how nobody hears you unless you can somehow manage to scream the loudest? Well, regardless of whether you get what I'm saying or not, I've noticed this theme amongst human beings during my lovely stay here on earth. Primarily; people feed on each others' attention like locusts. Truth is a Santa Claus-reminiscent fairytale parents feed their children as a means to instill idealistic, guilt-minimizing moralities while the mind is still young. Hope is our retrospect, our butterfly born of a desensitized cuccoon; beautiful to the eye, but oh-so-fragile to the wind. Yet we guard it with our lives.
Our irrational affinity for false hope has warped us into a species of thoughtless Lemmings. Logic is obsolete, replaced by blind faith and concepts pleasing to the ear. Humans have grown so egocentric, so neutered to the acknowledgement of their peers that they have no choice but to hold it in equally high regard in all facets of their lives. Hence, a monopoly is born - a monopoly of status quo, a police-state in which rationale is involuntarily discarded and exchanged for indulgence.
A ludicrous notion known as 'God' has preyed on the psychological weaknesses of humans for longer than history can record; glorifying the biggest lies with ease due to the power of the myriad of drunk puppets devoted to its cause. Today it's hard to tell which sells better, sex or fear...yet each draw an audience impossible to deny. All the while, democracy flourishes unquestioned; television has been whored into role modeling, and personalities are often butchered by a plague of uniquely human trends that take vicious hold before the mind has wholly formed and never fully let go.
Our brains are capable computers indeed. Yet they are impressionable, often falling prey to the less consistent nature of our emotions. Emotions, of course, are unstable for a number of reasons. Firstly, they have triggers that are typically determined by less-than-logical variables; such as hormones, human nature, or other chemical impulses in the brain. These factors are far more difficult to control than a dictated thought pattern because evolution designed us to blindly obey these synapses in order to insure our survival. However, evolution is faulty, as proven by the inconsequentiality of our own existance...but I won't even get into that shit. Basically, because we're complicated organisms with wildly diverse emotional boundaries, nature programmed us to be extremely succeptible to attention and social approval. Since we can't just be simple like the animals, we've been granted innumerable different triggers to aid in pursuing our equally apprehensive mate of the opposite sex; with whom we must procreate to further our own species. And unfortunately to the few people like me who care, these triggers can be easily used against us. In fact, they have.
There is a good feeling we naturally get as humans, as is inherent in our nature. When we are complimented or shown gratitude, a chemical reaction occurs in our brains to reassure us that what we did was right. As a result, we desire it; we crave it. It helps set a standard in our minds, discerning the difference between favorable and unwanted. This all takes place due to evolution's hardwiring, and nature doesn't make mistakes. Qualities such as this reaction were specifically designed to ensure our ability to carry out evolution's intention; which is, of course, to sustain life at all costs. People are fickle, people are picky; and brains aren't simple. Therefore, we need some type of indication of our own feelings; some way to judge our potential mate and ensure they are capable and worthy of raising a child to do the same as an adult. Sustaining life at all costs. Yet people are too deep to ever truly know their tendencies until we develop telepathy, so instead we've got the second best thing: compliment receptors. You don't have to be great as a person, but if you can lie well enough to make a person happy, their nature-driven emotional guard is dropped.
So, assuming I'm making any sense at all, and my past rants were at least somewhat understandable, we now can conclude that our tendency to overly value the opinions of others is, in fact, etched into our very DNA. In short, basically what this means is that there's no way we'll ever work around the downside of this as a species. Theoretically, it would be possible, if we were taught in a more practical fashion as children. But that'll never happen, because I'm wrong.
Yeah, you heard me right. My entire opinion is wrong. An opinion is only right if it coincides with the beliefs of the general population. The population will only wholeheartedly accept a premise that is favorable to themselves. This premise in turn can only be proposed by a particularly well-respected member of the population; who naturally will be unworthy of respect unless the general population first favors him. And of course, his being acknowledged by the population will only occur in the first place if he does an outstanding job telling the population what they want to hear. Logic is obsolete, truth is a fairy tale. Above all, people need to be lied to, because reality is unpleasant and our brains are too complex to be self reliant.
So, yes, back to my last subject. Since I'm wrong, as determined by past examples' input on the definition of the word, I have absolutely no chance of ever being acknowledged by the general populace without changing my message to make them feel more appreciated. And since that in itself is a monumental contradiction (causing an anti-humanity argument to appeal to the whole of said species), there's no way we'll ever be taught about our own deepest inadequacies as children. Moreso, since humans are selfish and indulgent, it is likely that these triggers in our brains will continue to be exploited for the purposes of propagating our own self-esteem and rigging the economy; until the end of time. That's just how shit is.
In a nutshell: masturbation is tasteless, and ignorance is an outlandish insult to our magnificent brains. Think for yourself.
